Didcot flood risk

Didcot Strategic Flood Risk Assessment

We commissioned consultants to undertake a Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA) for Didcot. The Environment Agency part funded, and fully supervised and supported the assessment. It was also part funded by local landowners.  The assessment is part of new government policy for planning authorities contained in Planning Policy Statement 25: Development and Flood Risk (PPS25)

We aim to consider flood risk when preparing planning policies to direct development away from areas at highest risk of flooding and avoid inappropriate development in areas at some risk of flooding.

The assessment identifies areas that may be at flood risk. Taking account of climate change, it details factors that may influence the risk and identifies what development may be suitable for different areas of land.

The maps that result from the assessment show flood zones 2 and 3.

Flood zone 2 is the medium probability flood risk area that has between a I in  100 and 1 in 1000 year annual probability of flooding (1% - 0.1%) in any year.  Flood zone 3 is the high probability flood risk area that has a 1 in 100 or greater annual probability of flooding (>1%) in any year.

Where existing properties fall within one of the flood zones owners may wish to consult the Environment Agency's Flood Map website , which gives advice on how to prepare for flooding.

The assessment information is shown in a number of documents, the data collation report identifies all the information used to prepare the assessment.  The modelling report describes the modelling techniques.  The maps show the flood outlines for different flood events and the Development Guidance gives advice about how potential development on different areas of land should have regard to flood risk.

These documents are too large to be included on our website - you may view them by appointment at the council offices or purchase a CD containing the information for £10.
