Networking events for young people - information for young people and teachers
Find out about the council and local democracy
The council organise two young people's networking events, one in March and the other in October during Local Democracy Week. Young people take part in a variety of activities around local democracy.
In March we had 32 young people attend the event from Wallingford, Langtree and St Birinus Schools. This event was a chance for students to find out more about what the council does, how council services affect them, meet councillors and share their views about issues that affect them. Find out more in the March 2010 netwroking newsletter (View download from the quick links menu on the right).
At previous events young people have said they had learnt more about local democracy and had a better understanding of how to make a difference to their communities. The events are also a great opportunity to meet and socialise with other young people from around the district.
What have young people said about events?
-Political Speed Dating was the favourite. It was also a wonderful way of getting to know you all. You are definitely not as scary and strict as you seem!-
"It was brill".
"I think it went really well, things were explained and the activities were really good".
What did the teachers say?
-A really useful day"
Local Secondary schools are invited to attend and are offered 6 spaces each. More spaces may become available depending on the take up. Teachers are asked to select students to attend.
Please contact the Young People's Coordinator for more information and to find out the dates for the next event using the contact details on the right.
