Dangerous waste
If you have any items that you suspect may be unsafe to put in your dustbin, contact Oxfordshire County Council for free advice on safe disposal. Please note, if you need to dispose of asbestos, see our asbestos page, and our clinical waste page for syringe disposal.
The County Council offer a free doorstep collection of hazardous household waste. However, please do note that hazardous waste collections occur approximately every six months, depending on the volume of bookings.
Dangerous items could include the following:
- Garden chemicals
- Unusable solvent based paint
- Paint strippers and thinners
- Varnishes, wood stains and preservatives
- Sealants and glues
- Car care products
- Unknown items
You will need to provide them with a detailed list of your items including:
- Description of item i.e. pesticide, weed killer, unknown
- Size and type of container
- Amount still left in container
They will advise you of the collection date - however should you be unavailable on the date specified, an arrangement can be made to collect your waste from an alternative secure location.
You must provide correct details as any waste that is different to or of greater quantity than you have described, will not be collected.
To arrange this service, please contact the County Council's waste team on tel 08450 50 45 50, or email: waste.management@oxfordshire.gov.uk
