Freedom to build

Are you thinking about developing your property, or possibly buying a property depending on whether you can extend it to fit your needs?

In certain circumstances you can carry out minor extensions and alterations to your property without the need to apply to us for formal permission.

You can find out more about the changes using this interactive house guide.  (This guide requires Flash and it may take a while to load.  If you have a slow connection or do not have Flash please use this text only link: interactive house guide text only.)

View planning policies relating to a property

You may also find it useful to see what planning policies relate to the property and planning applications that have been approved or refused in the past.

Our Interactive Proposals Map will provide details of the relevant planning polices.  For example, if the property is in a Conservation Area or an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  You can find out more about what these actually mean.

Our Interactive Histories Map will tell you what planning applications we have received in the past and whether we approved or refused them.  This may provide a guide of what may or may not be acceptable.

Use the South Oxfordshire Local Search to find information about council services in the area, such as the planning application history on a property. Search by postcode or town/village.

Planning applications

However, if you would like a definite ‘yes or no’ as to whether your development is acceptable, you will have to submit a planning application.

If you have any further queries please contact the planning department.
