Building notice approval

Application form and fees

To obtain Building Notice approval you need to submit two copies of the application form and plans of the size and location of the work, together with the correct fee. Receipt of your application will be acknowledged within three working days. You can download/view both the application form and information on fees from the menu on the right.

Work can start as soon as an application has been submitted but you must give Building Control at least two days notice of the start date.

Changes to Building Regulations Charges

We have raised our building regulation charges for dealing with plans and site inspections for the first time since 2003, due to the increased time it takes us to deal with proposed plans and work on site.

The charges are set at a level to maintain a balanced budget over the next three years, and are still lower than the local average when compared to neighbouring councils' charges. If you have any questions or wish to discuss any aspect of the charges please contact Building Control.

Inspections

The building work will be inspected regularly to ensure that it meets the necessary Building Regulations.  When the work is complete a final inspection will be made before issuing a Completion Certificate.

The Building Notice process allows you to carry out work without the need to prepare full plans and is ideally suited to minor works.  However, you must be confident that the work will meet Building Regulations or you risk having to correct it.
