Staff Forum

Trade union membership is low at South Oxfordshire.  In response to that, and recognising the need to have a representative forum with which to negotiate with staff, the council set up a Staff Forum, representatives of which meet with the Chief Executive regularly to discuss issues of concern. 

Job evaluation

Job evaluation, which we implemented in 2002/2003, resulted in a new grading structure.  We have also introduced annualised hours and other family friendly policies, which provide our staff with a hard-to-beat benefits package. 

Awards

We were highly commended for these arrangements in the 2004 Municipal Journal/SOCPO work/life balance awards. Our council is officially one of the best councils to work for in the country, according to the Times Best Council to Work For awards 2008. This link will take you to an external website...

CPA 2007

As a result of our CPA 2007 assessment, the Audit Commission rated us an 'excellent' council.
