Sustainable Community Strategy
'Our place, our future' is the sustainable community strategy (SCS) for South Oxfordshire and replaces our community strategy which ran out at the end of March 2009. You can download reports reviewing the implementation of the former community strategy on the right of this page.
The SCS provides a new, overarching vision for South Oxfordshire. It deals with difficult cross-cutting issues such as the economic future of South Oxfordshire, social exclusion and climate change. At the same time as doing this it must:
- balance and integrate the social, economic and environmental aspects of communities in South Oxfordshire
- meet the needs of existing and future generations
- respect the needs of other communities in the wider region or internationally to make their own communities sustainable
The South Oxfordshire Partnership (SOP), the local strategic partnership for the district, developed the strategy in consultation with public, private and voluntary, community and faith organisations and groups, and with residents. Consultation took place over a period of 18 months between the summer of 2007 and early 2009.
'Our place, our future' will also feed into the development of a key planning document known as the Core Strategy and other planning policies within the Local Development Framework. These planning policies will support implementation of the aims of the SCS.
